Project 2 - Report

Project 2 is a continuous work from Project 1. It's a group work yet individual whereby 30% group and 70% individual. It is a more detail report and web book of one of the building listed in the brief. So, my group decided to use National Mosque of Malaysia for our Project 2 because it has more information and research can be found. It is also open to public to enter but with proper outfit.

Due to different schedule, Tasnia and I went to the National Mosque first before the others. It was my first time go there moreover first time driving in KL's hustle and bustle roads. Before going National Mosque, I'm fetching one of my friend to ChinWoo Stadium for her research and we followed her too but we can't go into those private places because we didn't not apply for the visit. We only look around the swimming pool and the badminton hall there.

After that, we went to National Mosque with head covered with scarf and wore long sleeves. There's a lot of tourists visiting the place too. We walk around in that big mosque which can takes us two hours. It is so gorgeous for the main prayer hall. The facade pattern also is one of my favourite. It creates a nice shade and shadow when the sun shines in. After all this site visit and research, Tasnia and I separate job scope for the architecture component analysis. We worked well together.

I'm thankful to be in such great team. With the nice spirit of cooperation, we did a great layout of web book.

Project 1 - Timeline & Diagram Analysis

This project is a group collaboration work for interior architecture students with architecture students. I'm in a group with Cecilia, Nicklaus Zhi Ying, Terence and Tasnia. We are needed to do research on Parliament Building and Stadium Merdeka in this small group whereas there are two other groups doing on Dewan Tun Canselor and Stadium Negara, TNB Headquarters and Bangunan Getah Asli. After that, these three group needed to compile all the info in a designed A5 booklet to produce a timeline with diagram analysis.

When doing this project, I get a lot of benefits for my studies as we shared info to each other. Not only that, the biggest lesson I learnt in this project is communication skills. Communicate with different course people with different kind of thoughts is a big challenge to me. We did had some little arguments and miscommunications but it was all fine. This make me realised that in future, I will face the same problem again and hopefully in future, I can settle it with a happy ending.

Countertop

The last technical drawing for Assignment 1 is countertop. This countertop is at my dry kitchen. I used this as reference and change some of the material in the technical drawing. I did quite some research through Google for the section part. From there, I realised that it isn't straight connected to the wall however there's plywood backing.

Assignment 2a - Sit & Site

It was a fun class trip to Perhentian Island! But don't forget our assignment! I'm in the team of Compare with Xin Qi, Kay Mun, Ellyn and Heidi. We are needed to compare the prices, reviews, condition of the environment, ratings, facilities and services of 6 hotels at the Long Beach, Perhentian Kecil Island. The 6 hotels are Ohlala Dormitory, Panorama Diver Chalet, Bubu Villa, Cempaka Chalet, The Aman Resort and D'Rock Gardens Chalet.
Among the six of them, The Aman Resort is the newest which just had its grand opening on August 2017.  Panorama Diver Chalet is the one we had for accommodation during the trip. Bubu Villa has the most facilities and services compare to the others. It also has the highest rating and best reviews as well as The Aman Resort. From the rating, we can see that Ohlala Dormitory, Panorama Diver Chalet and Cempaka Chalet have the lowest rating. For the location, Bubu villa is located near to the jetty which has a beautiful sunset scenery whereas Cempaka Chalet, Ohlala Dormitory and Panorama Diver Chalet is located near the greens. The Aman Resort is located right beside D'Rock Garden Chalet which is located at the end of the Long Beach.
After all these researches and findings, we decided to use digital to create our presentation board. We use Canva for the layout of the booklets. Canva is a very user-friendly website which provides many kinds of layout design which help us a lot. Then, we printed them out at Mummy Design which located above Vision Art.

Ikea Nick folding chair

I'm sure you are familiar with this chair. Almost every house has this chair. This time we need to find a furniture with synthetic material and metal. I choose this chair because it is "straight forward" and simple to draw than other chairs in my house which mostly is curvy. When doing this assignment, I had difficulties in imagining the section of this chair because its back rest is curvy. However, thanks to my lecturer to guide me in the imagining process AHAHA!

De Sylvia - Beach & Rocking chair + Trolley

After the crit session, we started to find materials for our furniture. At first, we planned to use wood, G.I steel and rubber motorbike tube for our major parts of the furniture. Heidi and I both know some wood / furniture factory that provide wood. So, we called and asked about the details but Heidi's one were not available to provide the woods because the workers had went to another factory at semenyih whereas mine can but it will be a bit expensive as the woods are imported and he will cut the shape for us. Unfortunately, when we get the woods, it is slightly smaller than the original measurement. It supposed to be 45 cm wide but it had become 33cm where only small size people can fit in. Since it's a design for my partner and both of us can fit in, so it's fine xD

Then, once the wood were done, I brought it to the steel factory to make the handle. Before the woods have done, I visit the steel factory to ask whether he can make the handle for me and he said can but this time when I went there, he said he misunderstood as thought that my handle is made of wood and just add a thin steel piece for touch up. Here is where the misunderstanding and miscommunication happens. However, he is so kind that he gave me a lot of different ideas to make the handle. First one is I just get a wood handle and shape it like my mock up. Second is he just thin steel piece (like those ice skate shoe) and lock it as rocking chair and it can't transform to trolley. Third is use aluminium kind of hollow steel (like gates steel) and curve it but that will cost more around RM200-300. So, I decided just use the first idea as it saves cost and more convenient. I'm very thankful to the person at the steel factory because he gave me free knowledge, free steel rod for the joint and free welding service! I'm so delight to meet someone that is so kind-hearted and willingly to share ideas to help students like me T.T

After cutting the handle, we assemble the chair and fix the rollers but we encounter another problem that is the round handle is too big that the rollers can even land on floor. We should either make the handle smaller or buy bigger rollers. In the end, the trolley still can't function. I'm going to bang the wall... We also lack of time to fix it so that's our final... May god bless our grades AHAHA

I want to take this opportunity to thanks my partner, Heidi for helping me, sharing ideas, and doing the paper works. Also, sorry and thanks her to tolerate my bad temper when I'm stressing out. I feel very bad because my temper wasn't that good during the process of doing the model. I'm sorry, my partner!

When I realised the woods were too small, but we had no time to fix it.

Collapsible Furniture - Chair and Trolley (first crit)

Started new semester and our first project is a group work. For this group work (2 Ppl or 3 in one group), we are needed to design a collapsible, dual-functional furniture. So, Heidi and I decided to be each other partner! Heidi had ideas for chair whereas I had ideas on trolley. Therefore, we combine our idea and below are our outcome!
The reason I got ideas for trolley is because of our last sem final when we need to bring all the model from assignment one to last assignment. All the mock ups and final products made me go up and down the lift and from lift to car a few times. And that's why I have idea of making trolley so that moving models for this sem final will be much more easier.
We had encounter a lots of problems when doing the mock up in scale 1:10. The biggest problem is doing the timber joint... Balsa wood is so soft that when we poke the satay stick, the joint breaks... This made me and Heidi stress up a lot because that is the most important piece for our furniture and that's why we couldn't produce much drawings for the crit. But, we managed to build fragile mock up xD
