For this semester, I'm taking Experiencing Culture as my minor subject. So, we decided to go to Kluang, Johor after a long discussion among our classmates, lecturers and head of department.

11/2/2019 is the D-day! We are going Kluang by UCSI bus. Due to a long holiday of Chinese New Year, some of my friends were in their hometown so they drive to the destination and we meet there. It took about 4-5 hours to reach Kluang because of the jam in Kuala Lumpur due to peak hours also we did stop by at R&R to have our breakfast. We reached the hotel - Starz hotel which booked by our local guide, Ms Anson. We checked in and put down our luggage before heading for lunch. After that, we had a meeting before we headed to have a look at the cultural site.

Everyone gather in a room beside the hotel for meeting
After the discussion, we are going to Jalan Ismail which is the Chinese area. It is really near to the hotel, just about 15 mins drive. It is just by the railway station whereby every 30 minutes, you can see a train pass by.

Ms Anson is there with us. She is explaining the history of Jalan Ismail and what's so special about this road. Jalan Ismail has been here for more than 100 years. It is a must-go place when you visit Kluang. It is a place full of history just by looking at the architecture. The lions on the building have three functions. First, it symbolises the mix culture of Chinese and Western. Next is to protect the building from demons also, as a propitious mascot. The year of built is also carved on the facade. Not only that, the state where the owner come from is carved on it so that passerby knows who own the building during the olden days.

A nice weather to start our journey

After that, we walked to an exhibition hall that belongs to Ms Anson. It is the place where we are going to have a Facebook live on our last night in Kluang to show our findings and understanding of our site in this trip.

Continue our journey to Jalan Station which is the India area. Jalan station is very different from Jalan Ismail where most of the building is in purple and pink. There is lots of shops selling indian clothes and cloth.

After visited the Indian area, we walked back to the bus which again we pass by Chinese area - Jalan Lambak. There is a row of lion facade. There is a story behind it. The owner of the shop in olden days used to have four wives so each of them gets a shop lot.
