Final assignment is announced after mid- sembreak T.T In positive way, I'm going to end this sem soon! So, what's final assignment all about? We are needed to design a relaxing pod which include a passive activity and an active activity. First or all, there are 3 phrases we need to go through: activity and context, form, space & function, orthographic drawing.
 Phrase 1: Activity & Context
We need to think about the passive and active activity and decide the context for this phrase. So, I did some research and feel like this four activities is what I wanted to do the most either for the assignment or in real life. I do not know how to play any of this activity in real life. Also, we need to use the context to support the pod/ lift the pod. That is why we need to find a suitable context. I think park in the city suit for the four activities I chose.

Listing
Parkour is a sport of jumping from one building to another building like spiderman.
Board skating
Cart racing
Bartender is the activity that I would like to learn in real life
Varies of context

Stargazing Up The Hill - Model Making

21:19 Nicole Tay 0 Comments

Here's come assignment 4 which was given on 3 May 2017! This is the best assignment among all! I don't like model making but I love model making of houses. Weird me! Maybe because I like measurement and squarish stuff. We are divided into groups for this assignment. I'm the group leader and my teammates are Emily, Pei Mun, Carmen and Heidi. So, first thing to do after got this assignment is we look through the floor plan and get the measurement of every single furniture. We searched on internet to get the standard sizes of the furnitures. After that, I distributed the house into five parts - kitchen & walkway, living room, bathroom, bedroom, wardrobe. So, each member gets one part and do the furniture for that area [ PM - bathroom, C - wardrobe, H - living room, E - bedroom, N - kitchen & walkway. I'm in charge of getting the materials like balsa wood, foam board, MDF, etc.
We had second meeting on the following Monday. During the meeting, we drew the floor plan on the MDF board and some of my teammates try out to do the window as a mock up. Then, we finished up our furniture and we plan to have another meet up to build the model up.
Third meet up - I printed the floor texture that we all agreed on it. Then, some of them in charge of building the frame and partition and I in charge of doing the interior and the windows. Heidi did the roof with my suggestion of skylight. The whole process was fun and amazing! Building tiny miniature is better than building big models. I really enjoy the process of making this model. Just that I need to be more cleaner on doing models. There's a lot of superglue white marks on the perspex and plastic sheet. Also, need to be more accurate on the measurement. I actually accidentally cut 100mm more for the partition on ground floor. I admitted that's was my fault which made the furniture on second floor is "out of the house". I'm sorry teammates!
For the presentation board, I named it as "Stargazing Up The Hill" because when I look at this house, it feels like a mansion on top of the hill. It looks so relaxing. Also, the main purpose of the skylight is star gazing and that's why I named it "Stargazing Up The Hill".

The Lucerne final product!

20:18 Nicole Tay 0 Comments

After weeks of doing this lighting piece, here's come the final product.... This thing doesn't come easily. Everyone in the class worked hard for their final product so that it is the best out of the best. Basically, it is the transformation and continuous upgrading from the first idea until we came to a very last perfect product. We need to consider of using the right keywords and how to make a nice shade and shadows by this lighting piece. During this few weeks of transformation, I realised how design course works. We need to produce better and better ideas in the limit of time also need to be alert with the time left. In design course, progress and procedure is important for us but final outcome is the one who catch the client's heart or eyes. Design field is about selling ideas.

Space Perspectives

After doing one point and two point perspectives of furnitures, we needed to do both perspectives of interior spaces. It become much more difficult than furniture. However, furniture is more complicated as it has more construction lines squeezing together. For me, the most difficult part among all is rendering using markers! First time using it to render. My rendering outcomes are so ugly and I really really need to practice because it is often used in my future! I swear I really need to practice this! I can't even take a second look at my rendering. It just hurts my eyes, seriously!
