Kiyomizu-dera

Kiyomizu-dera is one of my favourite temple which located in Kyoto, Japan. It was listed in the New 7 Wonders of the World because this temple was made without using a single nail! How impressive it is! How olden days people can build this kind of architecture without a nail while this temple is located on top of a mountain! It made me wonder...
This temple is built in the Heian period (794-1185) which means this temple has the age of around 832 years. There's this popular expression form Kiyomizu-dera. "To jump off the stage of Kiyomizu" in Japanese has the same meaning of to take the plunge in English. This is because there's a belief that if ones survive from the jump of 13m height Kiyomizu-dera stage, one's wish will be granted.

Olympic mascots

14:27 Nicole Tay 0 Comments

Every Olympic has different representative mascot for the country starting from 1968. For the olden days, mostly are in 2D form as the time pass, slowly they design in 3D. Mascots are used for marketing in attracting young children and toddlers. During Olympic season, mascots are printed on t-shirts or make as accessories like toys, keychains, earrings and etc.

Schuss for Grenoble 1968
Schuss is the first Winter Olympic mascot. It was a little man on skis and was coloured with colours of France : blue, white and red. As you can see, the logo of Olympic rings were haven't join together.

Fuwa, Beijing China 2008
This is my favourite Olympic mascots among all. Fuwa means lucky dolls. There were five dolls and each of the have their own names. According to the design (fish, giant panda, Olympic flame, Tibetan antelope and swallow), the name follows with Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan,Yingying and Nini. When this five names combined (Beijing Huanyingni), it means Beijing welcomes you. Also, each of them represent the five elements in Fengshui (water, wood, fire, earth and metal). When the Fuwa was first published, it attracted a lot of people to buy it and use it as for commercial all around in China.

Wenlock, London 2012
Wenlock is also one of the attracting mascot due to his one eye feature. Its eye represents the camera. The bracelet it wearing is according to the Olympic Rings colour. Also, his body look like hydrostatic skeleton *bouncy bouncy*

Vinicius from Rio 2016
Vinicius was designed in bright colours like yellow and orange. This is because its main purpose is to spread joy throughout the world also celebrate friendship that flourishes between people from all over the world. It is a kind of cat that represent Brazilians. As you focus on its body, Rio also created a logo for their Olympic.

Soohorang, Pyeongchang 2018
Soohorang, a white tiger as this Olympic is winter olympic. The white tiger also represent trust, strength and protection according to Korean mythology.

Sand art

20:39 Nicole Tay 0 Comments

When I was young, I have bottles of sand art that given by my sister as birthday present. Actually that's not sand in it, but it's chalk powder. She use blade to sharpen the chalk to get the powder. Then, she placed it carefully, and make strips of pastel colours. There's also another kind of sand art bottle which they create a scenery in the bottle.

This is the one my sister made

Besides, there's also sand drawing which I wanted to learn it so much as well as water art. The artist splash some of the sand on a transparent screen and start drawing a short story out of it. Recently, there's this kdrama which is very famous called "Guardian - The Lonely and Great God (Goblin)". One of the fan create a series of Goblin's sand art, even for the OST

Another kind of sand drawing is the real drawing on sand (on beach) or building a sculpture using sand. I wonder how the sand can be so firm and stand still. Doing sand art needs a lot of patient or else when the wind blows or when the water splash it.... I don't know what happened then...

My Fantastic Beast!

20:08 Nicole Tay 0 Comments

Well, when you saw my title, maybe you will thought some kind of handsome guy or a guy that with "chocolate" ( eight packs) but no! He is just a normal looking guy. Some even called him little freckle due to his freckles on his face. He is Eddie Redmayne!
The first movie I noticed him is The Danish Girl! His surprising acting skills that I wouldn't forget! His commitment towards his acting impressed me a lot. I can't imagine what's the feeling for a guy to wear a women dress/outfit and act as a lady. I can say he has the power to bring his audience to the movie. The storyline of The Danish Girl is great as it is in the "art century", involving a lot of arts which is very interesting for me! The ending made me cry like seriously I CRIED!

He suit in both guy and women character! *fangirl-ing*
The first time he feel the dress
This is insane! She... nope he doesn't look like a guy!
The second time he impressed me is the act of Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything. The face expression, the trembling, the symptoms of motor neurone disease was so really like he is Stephen Hawking! This movie make a clear vision of me about Stephen Hawking. Last time, I always thought Stephen Hawking is famous because of his disease also his prediction ( That's how stupid I am) but now I understand more about Stephen Hawking.

Stephen and Jane's tough relationship
He on the wheelchair
And of course, his newest movie! FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM! As Harry Potter fans, we do know this movie is known as a part of Harry Potter. I think that the beginning part of this movie is a bit bored because it was explaining all the magic terms and the beasts but the graphic of this movie is amazing! It has a strong storyline but compared to the Harry Potter series, this is more on fights whereas Harry Potter series more on solving problems.

A shout out to dog lovers!!

19:20 Nicole Tay 0 Comments

I'm a dog lover. I have three golden retrievers in my house and last time, I used to have a Shih-tzu but he has passed away... As a dog lover, I would like to let my dogs in the house rather than left it outside with the Malaysia hot weather. However, there's no place for my dogs if I let them to stay in the house. They will be just loitering around and make the whole area a mess. So, there's a few dog house design below which I saw in Facebook. I think it is more suitable for small and medium breed dogs whereas large breed dog like doberman will not fit in the dog house.
Under Kitchen Tabletop
Under staircase... but for Malaysia, normally under staircase is a storage room xD
Guard dog for washing machine?
Wow! luxury room with chandelier and sofas!
A suitable room for dog... everything is prepared..
Snoopy in tv?

Dog at left : Not enough space T.T
Luxury dog house design for outdoor
A mansion for a beagle!
OMG are u serious? Jacuzzi? I'm so envy at the dog that stay in the house
Little farm yard... I can imagine mama dog, papa dog and their children playing there

Penny Black

18:40 Nicole Tay 0 Comments

There's an article about Penny Black came out for my recent english test. It took my attention as I first thought is was really a penny coin that is black in colour. LOL How stupid I am! But now I did gain knowledge from it HA!
Penny Black was the World's First Postage Stamp which used in postal system. It features Queen Victoria. According to the article I read, Sir Roward Hill started this idea of using stamp because back in olden days, they need to pay according miles and sheets of paper which is really troublesome.  So, Sir Roward thinks that flat rate will make posting job easier.

Penny Black
The portrait of Queen Victoria is used in this stamp until she's died. The dimension of this stamp is 3/4 inch wide by 7/8 inch tall to accommodate the word "Postage" and also "One Penny". The top is designed Maltese crosses and the background engraved with engine turnings.
Later, Hills change the colour of the stamp to brownish red to make the cancellation mark easier to be seen and there's come Penny Red.

ALERT : CTX VIDEO!

19:28 Nicole Tay 0 Comments

I did some changes for my script as I found out my video was too long. The part for Professor Waleton visit was cut off because first, the video when it was half done, it's already more than 5 minutes. Secondly, I couldn't find an old man to act as Professor Waleton. Thirdly, most of the uncles I know doesn't speak English very well. And from there, I decided to cut off that part even though I unwilling to.
So, now, here's come the most exciting moment!!!! My "handmade product" is ready to be "served". My video has a lot of flaws.. I admit that due to the background noise. When you watch my video, you will see a lot of red tags... that's because....... I USE IKEA AS MY VENUE TO FILM AHAHAHAH! Also, I didn't expect there's so many people in Ikea at the time I filmed... so there's kiddo shouting and crying, people talking as the background noise.... Really got a huge headache for it when I was editing the video...
Also, I had made a blooper for it... Hope you enjoy it!!

Video shooting - planning, filming, helping

11:40 Nicole Tay 0 Comments

Last week, I started to film for my video. But before that (during cny), I was busy planing and finding for male actor also venue. Finding for a male actor is the most difficult part for this whole assignment. As we all know, not many guys like to act, also many of them are not free on cny even after cny due to their studies. I had been stressed out for a week on finding male actor. I even try asking the "cny renting boyfriend" but fail because the guy lives in JB(THIS IS INSANE). Asking all my close male friends for help but no one wants. And the very unfortunate is that I have only few male friends which my fingers can count on to. Just before I wanted to give up on this assignment, I found one which is my ex school mate! We are kinda close but not really close. We seldom talk in class but because of this video, we became buddies.

So, on the D-day of filming, Peimun who is the actress for my video met her partner for the first time! HA! Here's come the awkward moments! The first time when they both play for the video, Peimun was so shy to look into Brinn's (actor) eyes. But soon they warmed up, the process of filming was very fun! NG scene, sudden laugh come often (Blooper will be uploaded on Youtube soon! Stay Tuned). Other than having fun, I do have stress time when the actor and actress was stressed up due to some reasons which I couldn't avoid. Solving these problem make me realised how difficult it is to film a drama or even a simple short film. Handling personal feelings and caring others feeling is the key in here. I really learn a lot in this video shooting.

After I done my filming, I also help Carmen, Huili and Peimun to film for theirs as an actress. I really like acting but remembering script is a big challenge. I used to have strong memory power when I was young but due to design course which we don't need to remember any terms, my memory power drop rapidly. The whole process of filming was really enjoying and now I just hoping the outcome will be great.

My Team!

The video below is the one I most recommend for beginners like me to watch it because the teaching is really clear and understandable.
